Letters from Antarctica

My inconsequential travel blog

Mailing Address

I love to get mail.  Please send me things.  I could always use hats and other fashionable items.  Appearently we can never have enough lotion as the climate is the driest on Earth.  And I also like candy.  Please don’t send home made food or anything that is living (i.e. fruits and vegetables or popcorn) as this will not make it through customs. I also wouldn’t mind getting music or DVDs.

If you send me something I’ll send you a postcard  (sent and postmarked) from Antarctica.  I’ll send you one even if you don’t send me something.  Just send me your mailing address. I would love to send you something.

Shipping to the ice is normal postage cost; the only difference is you have to fill out the long customs form. It’s an APO address so it’s military and it’s cheap to send stuff.

If Sending thing from the US:

Marty Dukes
McMurdo Station- RPSC
PSC 469 Box 700
APO AP 96599-1035

US Postal Service only. Here’s the key: if you can get your item(s) into a soft/padded envelope, the regular “first class” or flat mail comes on every flight. Flat mail can come from the States in as little as 10 days. Netflix.com is becoming more popular in McMurdo as the flat mail moves quickly. Be sure to bag your liquid items to guard against leakage. Make sure to use the envelopes that are bubble wrap padded. And one more thing- NO packing peanuts. These are detrimental to the environment and we have no way of disposing of them- remind your family and friends not to use these.

If sending from New Zealand:

Marty Dukes, RPSC
McMurdo Station
Air Post Office
Private Bag 4747
Christchurch New Zealand 8001

If Sending from another country you should check to see which address is cheaper.
